Chris Scott says he and his players have made it a priority to fix their issue with free kicks.
The Cats have given away 17 more free kicks than they have been paid so far in 2016, which is the worst differential in the AFL.
"We've got a problem," Scott told Fox Footy's AFL360 program on Monday evening.
"We give away way too many free kicks, we don't get enough. We [only] got 10 free kicks on the weekend.
"Now that's not an umpiring problem. That's a Geelong football club problem."
Scott has sought some clarification from the umpiring department as he endeavours to work through the issue.
"In all seriousness, you can stick your head in the sand and say this is not fair, this is out of our control, or you can take responsibility," he said.
"It's over time with us. It's not one game or two games, it's over a period of years.
"We have a player [Joel Selwood] who's got the most free kicks in the competition over the last couple of years.
"So we are bad, and we haven't gotten to the bottom of it.
"There's no pattern, there's no particular free kick. [But] the stats don't lie.
"If you are that poor in the free kick differential, you've got two choices: You can blame the umpire and say 'woe is me,' or you can take responsibility and try to get to the bottom of it."
