Simonds Stadium had the excitement of housing mad Cat supporter and Hollywood actor, Guy Pearce, on Saturday night.

The first three quarters of Rd10 had everyone, including Guy feeling very nervous, although he recognized their pattern of play and was confident the Cats would find their groove and sail home.

“The first three quarters were a little stressful obviously, I know the boys take a little while to wake up and figure out what’s going on and work out how to drive a team into the ground, and obviously they did it by the last quarter, so it was great,” Guy told Cats TV.

Guy believes the Cats have cracked one of the most important elements of the game, which is their culture to win. He feels it's a culture that could reserve the Cats a spot in the 2013 grand final.

“Totally, there is absolutely no reason why they wouldn’t be (in this year’s grand final), clearly the skills of the newer players is just as impressive as the skills of the older players," Guy said.

"Obviously the culture at the club means the newer guys have really been brought into the fold believing that they can win and I think that is one of the most important factors of playing sport. It’s the psychological element of it in that you do believe you can win.”

The young players' class and dominance fascinates Guy and he says their improvement is remarkable. He believes the players’ trust and confidence on the ground is what keeps their force tight, making them one of the hardest fleets to beat.

“I just find it astounding that Billie Smedts and all those guys, as I say have the confidence, obviously every player in the AFL is a great player there is no doubt about it, but the fact that you can coalesce the way the Geelong players do and really trust each other and have that sort of confidence in each other, and to be able to execute the skills that they have, is really exciting,” Guy explained.

Currently Guy is filming in Australia with the ABC and hopes to stick around to catch a few more games.

“I am filming something here at the moment, we are doing an ABC TV movie and we’ll finish that in a couple of weeks, but I am going to try and stick around for the rest of the year, so hopefully I’ll get to a few more games,” Guy said.

"Go Cats."
