Gary Rohan’s match winning performance against Collingwood on Saturday has been rewarded with nine coaches votes, putting him in second place on the Gary Ayres Award leaderboard after one week of finals.
The AFL Coaches Association Gary Ayres Award is presented in recognition of the player who has been adjudged as the best player throughout the AFL Finals Series, as voted by the coaches on a weekly basis. Votes are issued after every game of the Finals Series by the competing coaches, with each coach providing their 5-4-3-2-1 for the match.
Rohan was spectacular when the game was on the line, out marking three Magpies and kicking a crucial goal in dying stages of the game, before setting Max Holmes up for the match winner minutes later. But more than just a highlights reel, Rohan was strong and steady early, a key reason Geelong was able to stay in touch with the fast-starting Magpies.
He finished the game with a season high three goals and 14 disposals to go with seven score involvements.
Tom Atkins (3), Jeremy Cameron (1) and Joel Selwood (1) were also among the votes.
