Cats skipper Joel Selwood and livewire forward Daniel Menzel will join the VFL Cats on Friday night for a practice match against Richmond at Punt Road.
Selwood has made steady progress throughout the pre-season despite being sidelined by a plantar fasciitis injury and will cap off the final stages of his recovery with the full-blooded hit out.
“I’m going to have a run around in our VFL side and dust myself off,” Selwood told Triple M’s Hot Breakfast on Tuesday morning.
“Dan Menzel and myself are going to head down there this weekend. [I] Haven’t gotten enough work in over the summer.”
Menzel enjoyed a starring role on centre stage at Simonds Stadium during the Cats eight point loss to Collingwood in the club’s first NAB Challenge clash, picking up 19 disposals, one mark, four tackles and a goal.
Having rarely missed a session all summer, the club chose to rest the 24-year-old for the remaining two pre-season fixtures but will unleash him on Friday night for one final test before round one.
The practice match will kick off at 6:30pm at Punt Road Oval and is open to the public.
Gates open from 5:30pm – enter through the gates at the Punt Road end.
With a number of coinciding events underway throughout the precinct that evening, supporters are encouraged to take public transport to Richmond Station.
Parking will be available in Yarra Park from 5:30pm – entry via Gate 5 (off Punt Road). Cost is $10 per car.
