Geelong VFLW young guns Charlotte Simpson and Analea McKee have both been selected in the 2023 Under 23 All-Stars Team that will take on the AFL Academy Girls Squad later this month.
Simpson and McKee were among 23 players selected from across the VFLW, Coates League, the Northern Territory and Tasmania to play in the annual match on Sunday 18 June.
Simpson has been a force through the midfield for the Cats in the VFLW this season, averaging 23.3 disposals and 4.9 tackles per game, as well as kicking four goals across the course of the season.
Key position player McKee has made her presence felt predominantly as a forward, but has stepped into the ruck and defence as needed.
A strong marking option who brings a lot of pressure, McKee has been a consistent performer for the Cats across the season, highlighted with a match-winning three-goal haul against Essendon in Round 9, as well as a 12-tackle effort against Darebin in Round 3.
Simpson’s and McKee’s selection in the All-Stars team means they will be unavailable for Geelong’s VFLW Round 12 game against Box Hill Hawks.
Geelong VFLW coach Elise Coventry congratulated the duo for their recognition in the All-Stars team.
“It is exciting for them, and exciting for the club as well to have some of our players recognised," Coventry said.
"Those two individuals have worked super hard over the off-season, and even before that, they worked really hard - Analea as a train-on (with Richmond) and 'Simmo' (a train-on with Geelong) has just been chipping away at her footy for a long time.
"It's really good to see now that, for us, they're playing good footy, and that's been recognised externally."
