The Geelong Football Club congratulates premiership player Corey Enright on his induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday night.

Enright – a three-time premiership player and two-time Carji Greeves medallist with the Club – played 332 games across his 16-year career and was elevated to Legend status at Geelong last year.

Widely regarded as one of the best running defenders to have played AFL, Enright famously won his two club best-and-fairest awards in premiership years (2009 and 2011), and was named in the All-Australian team on six occasions.

A Rising Star nominee in his first season with the Cats, Corey was also part of the Club’s pre-season NAB Cup triumphs in 2006 and 2009.

Enright took over the mantle for most VFL/AFL games played by a Geelong Cats player in 2016, overtaking Ian Nankervis’ record of 325, and held the title until surpassed by former Geelong Cats captain Joel Selwood last year.

“It is fantastic to see one of our Club’s Legends recognised by the broader Australian Football community with this induction,” Geelong Cats Chief Executive Officer Steve Hocking said.

“While Corey was often referred to as the most underrated player in the league during his playing career, it is pleasing to see how highly the Australian Football Hall of Fame selectors rate him, inducting him so soon after he qualified for consideration.

“An exemplary person on and off the field who showed true capacity for greatness and embraced what it was to be a catalyst for those around him, Corey gave so much to our Club first as a player, and later as an assistant coach.

“We congratulate Corey on his well-deserved induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.”

Enright’s premiership teammate Jimmy Bartel was also inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday night.
