In his seventh season at the top level, Jack Bowes will reach game number 100 when he runs out against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night.

Bowes spent his junior career in Queensland, joining the Gold Coast Academy before being drafted by the Suns with pick 10 in the 2016 National Draft.

Described as a “silky smooth midfielder who doesn’t waste disposals” in his Draft Profile, the 25 year old slotted straight into the Suns starting line-up with a round one debut in 2017.
After playing 83 games across six seasons up North, the versatile asset joined Geelong via trade at the end of the 2022 season.

In 16 games this year with the Cats, Bowes has averaged 15 disposals per game while playing a number of roles anywhere from half forward to half back in 2023.

Cameron Ling and Meg McDonald discussed Bowes most valuable positions heading forward for the Cats, on this week’s episode of ‘To the Final Bell.’

"On a wing, across half back, minutes through the middle, he really is one of those versatile weapons that can give you a bit of everything,” Ling said.

"I think he is best utilised as a wingman but he could at times roll back into defence to be that set-up, release player similar to what Mitch Duncan has been for the Cats.

"He could be a nice replacement for Mitch, and you are going well if you are put in that category.”

The 25 year old has put together some great performances for the Cats in 2023, picking up 25 disposals and a goal against North Melbourne while also amassing 24 disposals against Brisbane just a few weeks ago.

Packaged in a trade with pick seven in last season’s draft, Bowes said the Cats were one of the only clubs to really value what he would bring to the club on his own.

“I knew from the start Geelong were pretty excited with what I can bring to the club,” Bowes told AFL Media.

“I had a great feeling when I met them. I was blown away by the culture, by the people they have in the football club, and by how stable they are.

Learning off some of the greatest players in the competition appealed to me.”

Bowes will bring up game number 100 this Saturday night, when the Cats face the Bulldogs in the final round of the 2023 season.
