The 2019 VFL and VFLW fixtures were released today by AFL Victoria.
All eight VFL home games will be played at GMHBA Stadium, with two of them acting as curtain-raisers to Saturday night AFL games.
The club’s VFLW side will also play three matches at GMHBA Stadium including a Round 16 blockbuster with Carlton held before the AFL match between the same teams.
The remaining VFLW home games will be spread across three venues - Deakin University Oval, Queens Park and for the first time the side will play at Central Reserve in Colac. Central Reserve held a pre-season match earlier this year between Geelong and Essendon in front of an impressive 9,000 fans.
“The AFL JLT match in 2018 was a great success and it is great to bring VFLW football to the venue next season,” tells Geelong’s VFLW and AFLW operations and recruiting manager Ben Waller.
“The growth of women’s football across the AFL Barwon region has been incredible and to see the talent coming out of Colac is exciting for all involved.”
Another win for supporters of both sides is that there are seven VFL/VFLW doubleheaders held at the same venue.
“We are really pleased that our VFL and VFLW teams have the opportunity to play at the same venue, on the same day on seven occasions during the 2019 season.”
“This provides not only a great opportunity to integrate our programs, but also makes it a great day out for our supporters”.
Finally, there are two Saturdays where Geelong’s three teams will play home games on the same day.
The first is on July 13 when the Cats will play against St Kilda’s three affiliated sides and the second is on August 10 when the club will take on North Melbourne’s teams.
