Cats midfielder/forward Mathew Stokes has made many memorable contributions since debuting in 2006, but most have come over four quarters.

On Sunday, Stokes had a new role, not entering the fray until the third term in an unfamiliar role as substitute.

But once he entered the action, Stokes was a key contributor in the Cats stunning come from behind victory.

However don't expect Stokes to be wearing the subs vest often in the future.

"Stokesy's clearly in our best 21 right at the moment," Scott said at the post game media conference.

The diminutive Stokes channelled his disappointment with not starting and made North Melbourne pay.

"No player likes to be the sub," Stokes told Adellaide Now.

"You don't want to go too well because then you're going to become the (regular) sub. There were a couple of reasons why I was the sub today.

"You can either stay positive and come on and try and impact, or you can get negative and be angry.

"I had a really good pre-season, but I had a couple of injuries early on. It really put me back a little bit.

"It feels at the moment it's all going well. You don't want to pump yourself up too much because footy has a knack of playing well and the next week you struggle."
