The VFLW Cats have made it two wins on the trot in Colac, after defeating Darebin by seven points on Saturday afternoon. 

Another big fourth quarter effort from Geelong saw them charge home to claim victory, booting three goals to one in the final term to overrun the Falcons at Central Reserve in Colac.

The Cats controlled general play early in the contest, but a goal against the flow saw Darebin hit the scoreboard first.

The Falcons were then able to fight back in the territory game, winning the aerial contest to grab 15 marks to 5 in the first quarter.

A late first quarter goal from Chantal Mason put the Cats back in front by a point, as the quarter time siren rang out.

Identical to the start of the game, Geelong brought the energy early in the second term but again it was Darebin who impacted the scoreboard, kicking the only goal of the second quarter. 

The remainder of the first half was a tight, congested contest played mostly between both arcs with neither team prepared to give an inch, as the Falcons held on to a six point lead at the main break. 

Olivia Stewart gave the Cats a spark early in the second half, kicking a goal just two minutes into the third quarter to tie the game at 13 a piece.

Darebin answered immediately from the next centre bounce, to claim back the lead with only three minutes played in the quarter. 

Brooke Plummer began to rise, with her run and carry through the midfield lifting her teammates.

Geelong struck twice early in the fourth quarter through Breanna Pratt and Zoe Larkins, to get the game on their terms and take the lead by seven points.

Pratt would boot her second goal for the quarter with five minutes to go, sealing another fourth quarter comeback and a second straight win for the Cats.

Geelong closed down the game late, with the final margin a seven point win over the Falcons. 

The Cats' willingness to take on the game with quick fire handballs was a telling story, finishing well ahead (+60) in that stat which lead to fast flowing and aggressive plays, eventually wearing down Darebin's defence late in the game. 

Mia Fuller, who was one of Geelong’s best, stamped her authority on the game and was one of the most influential players on the ground with 14 disposals.

Bryde O’Rourke, Geelong’s Father-Daughter AFLW Draftee in 2023, made her debut in the hoops and was impactful with 14 disposals and four marks, showing off her footy smarts and speed around the ground.

Brooke Plummer lead all disposal getters with 19 disposals, while Cheryl De Groot, Zoe Cowan and debutant Mekah Morrissy all impressed with 14 possessions. 

The VFLW Cats will head to Sydney next weekend, to take on the GWS Giants on Saturday afternoon.
