The Cats midfield made a statement after half time on Saturday night with midfielder Tanner Bruhn instrumental in the comeback win over Richmond.

Bruhn amassed 26 disposals against the Tigers, the second highest total of his career, to go along with six clearances and a crucial goal in the second quarter.

The 22-year-old has gone from strength to strength in 2024, averaging a career-high 19 possessions and six clearances, while also pushing forward to hit the scoreboard, kicking a goal in his last three games.

The young on-baller spoke on the Sunday Footy Show following the win over the Tigers, noting the midfield battle was crucial in turning the tide on Saturday night.

“It started in the contest with our midfielders, we needed to get work,” Bruhn said.

“Once we got our mojo going, we were able to connect with our forwards better.

“We know we have to get it into our forward line, and the boys down there will do the work.

“Chris Scott had a real emphasis on trying to win the ball, and really generating our ball movement from the midfield.

“We were able to do that and capitalise on the scoreboard.”

In just his second season with the Cats, Bruhn has quickly developed into a key cog in the Geelong midfield, alongside an exciting young core of emerging players.

Bruhn and the midfield group flipped the momentum in the second half against Richmond, with the Cats piling on 12 of the last 15 goals to clinch the win at GMHBA Stadium.

The 22-year-old said he is thrilled to be back playing at home, after returning to Geelong via trade at the end of the 2022 season.

“I am really enjoying my time back in Geelong, back close to my family and friends,” Bruhn said.

“Most importantly I am enjoying my footy more than I ever have, which was the biggest driver for me with the move back home.”
