Caitlin Thorne is settling into life in the Hoops, after joining the Cats last week ahead of the 2024 AFLW season.

With a strong ability to run and carry, Thorne brings an element of versatility to the Cats squad with the potential to play through the middle and across half-back.

The 20-year-old has spent the past two seasons playing with Box Hill in the VFLW, averaging 16 disposals and seven tackles per game in 2024.

Thorne chatted with Cats Media during the week to discuss her move, noting how she is settling into her new home at GMHBA Stadium.

“It has all happened very quick, but it is very exciting and I am loving it so far,” Thorne said.

“I moved down to have a go in a different league, just to see how the VFLW differs from the QAFLW and to see if I can be drafted.

“I am a run and carry player who can link up from behind to get attacking, forward movement going and I like to get the ball down field as quickly and as far as I can.

“I am looking to embrace as much as I can and soak it all up while I am here while gaining as much knowledge as I can.”

Thorne played her junior football in Queensland, representing the state at the AFLW Under 18 Championships in 2023 while also spending time with the Suns Academy.

Playing with Bond University in 2022, Thorne was named in the QAFLW’s team of the year, despite being an underage player at the time.

The exciting recruit hit the track with her new teammates this week, as the Cats ramp up their preseason preparations ahead of the 2024 AFLW season, which kicks off for Geelong on the 31st of August.
