Scott on Saturday’s Big Win

The start of the game was really dominant, the first five minutes or so the ball was locked in our forward half.

Sometimes that makes you a little bit nervous because you know against a team that has been in good form, that there are going to be ebbs and flows within the game.

We just couldn't capitalise on the scoreboard, knowing at some point they would have their moments and I thought they looked dangerous at times.

I can see why they have the record they do, especially over the last two months.

We were able to pressure them to the point where they were unable to get the ball forward.

A month ago I wasn't too flat about how we were going, disappointed and a bit annoyed but not overreacting.

We are not going to overreact now that we have had a couple of wins, but it is reasonable to say that the signs are good.

Scott on De Koning’s Ruck Evolution

All the moves we have made were things we have discussed over a long period of time.

Sam De Koning is a really important player for us, we are going to prioritise him and the fact that the signs are really good makes us feel a little better.

Even if he wasn't playing as well as he is at the moment, we would continue to invest in him.

I am not sure whether it is known or not, but Sam grew a lot in his last couple years of junior footy.

Before that he described himself as a half back flanker, not even a key position player and certainly not a ruckman.

Scott on Shaun Mannagh’s Performance

We say to our players all the time at VFL level, we are much more interested in the role you are going to play at senior level.

Sometimes we take away the opportunity to kick an extra couple of goals or get the ball in their hands more, Lawson Humphries is an example of that.

We wanted to see that he could play the role at VFL level that we wanted him to play at AFL level.

Then the next message is we don't get hung up on stats, not even at senior level.

We were trying to sell the message that it was a whole lot more than the goals Shaun was kicking, it's not that we told him that pressure is important because he has that in him naturally anyway.

I thought the nice thing about his game today was that he showed that he can pressure and play a complete role that we ask of our forwards.

I thought that group of medium and small forwards did a really good job tonight.

Scott on Max Holmes' Impressive Season

Max is a good example of the way we coach the team, which is for the most part trying to maximise the impact of our best players.

Dangerfield for example, we would love to have two of him so we could play one forward.

Max is in great form but we have been saying that all year, he has been a very consistent performer for us no matter where he has played.

I suspect over the course of his career, he will be one that will dominate our conversation in the preparation for games and in game, trying to figure out where we can use him to best advantage us.
