Geelong are set to roll out another talented youngster this weekend, with exciting midfielder Bella Smith set to pull on the Hoops for the first time on Sunday against Sydney.

A dynamic on-baller with clean hands and plenty of power in the contest, Smith will roll through the Cats engine room against the Swans as they look to get back on the winners list.

It has been an incredible story of persistence and resilience for Smith, who spent two years with Brisbane but was restricted by injuries during her stint in Queensland.

Selected with pick 35 in the 2021 AFLW draft, the tough midfielder made her debut last year before joining Geelong via trade ahead of the 2024 season.

Earlier this year Smith lined up for the VFLW Cats and showed plenty of her potential, collecting 15 disposals and laying eight tackles in the round eight clash against Collingwood.

Smith spoke to Cats Media following her trade, touching on what she will bring to the team.

"I am someone who enjoys contested footy and loves the inside game,” Smith said.

“I'm hoping to slot in as a half forward and an on-baller, to get in amongst the contest.

“That is something I am trying to bring to this team, challenging them in that area.

“As soon as I rocked up to see GMHBA Stadium, I was in awe of the facilities we have. I am looking forward to getting out there and playing some footy."

Smith will make her Geelong debut on Sunday as the Cats take on Sydney, with the opening bounce at 3.05pm. The game will be broadcast live and free on channel seven from 3.00pm.
