The AFLPA have named their final 22Under22 team presented by Snaffle for the 2024 season, with Ollie Dempsey and Max Holmes both selected.
Holmes has been named on a half back flank and Dempsey named at half forward, with the pair awarded for their 2023 campaigns.
The team is a fan-voted concept that recognises the AFL’s best young talent, with a 40 man squad whittled down to the best 22 players under the age of 22.
Playing a few different roles for Geelong between half back and the midfield, Holmes has been one of the Cats most consistent contributors in 2024.
Holmes has averaged a career high 24 disposals per game, leading the Cats in contested possessions and sitting second at the club for inside 50’s and clearances.
The young gun has been dynamic for Geelong, collecting 20 disposals or more in 21 of his 22 games so far this year.
2024 is the second time Holmes has been selected in the initial squad, but the first time he has been named in the final 22.
Ollie Dempsey has been recognised for his breakout season, proving to be a valuable asset for the Cats both on the wing and across half forward.
The 21 year old has played every game in 2024, averaging over 17 disposals and nearly a goal per game while providing significant ground coverage with his strong work rate.
Dempsey burst onto the scene in round one, earning an AFL Rising Star nomination after collecting 15 disposals and kicking three goals against St Kilda.
The two young Cats have been an integral part of Geelong’s team in 2024, helping them secure a return to the Finals.
