The Cats entered the final round of the 2022 season on a 12 game win streak, looking to carry their momentum into September in Patrick Dangerfield’s 300th game.
Two games clear on top of the ladder, Geelong had already secured the minor premiership but their clash with West Coast was a chance to fine tune their game before Finals.
Brad Close started proceedings with the opening goal of the game, with the Cats booting six of the first seven majors to open a 31 point lead late in the first quarter.
West Coast hit back with three unanswered goals, before Geelong put the foot down in the second quarter booting the next six consecutive majors to take a 51 point lead into the main break.
Tyson Stengle and Tom Hawkins tore apart the second half, combining to kick five of the Cats last six goals as the margin extended all the way out to 85 points at the final siren.
Mark Blicavs secured the three Brownlow votes picking up 25 disposals, while Hawkins and Stengle finished with four goals apiece.
Patrick Dangerfield celebrated his 300th game in style, collecting 22 disposals and 11 inside 50’s in a typical dominant display from the Cats champion.
The Round 24 win helped Geelong carry their momentum into September, helping to set up what transpired over the next month as they went on to win the 2022 flag.
