Geelong secured an exciting young prospect with pick 66 in the 2024 AFL Draft, selecting dashing defender Lennox Hofmann from the Sandringham Dragons.
Standing at 190cm tall, Hofmann is touted as a strong intercept defender with great leg speed that helps him to impact plenty of contests.
Hofmann outlined two players in particular that he models his game on, specifically noting their ability to turn defence into offense.
"I am a quick, half back runner with some intercepting ability in the air," Hofmann said.
"I based my game a little bit on Connor Idun.
"He was a really good defender, then over the last couple of years he implemented a bit of offense into his game.
"That is something I need to work on as well, so a bit of Idun but also focusing on Tom Stewart with his intercept abilities."
With ties to St Kilda's Academy, the Cats had to wait to secure Hofmann with the Saints choosing not to match the bid on the young product.
Hofmann joined his fellow draftees and recruits to kick off the pre-season in November, with Geelong's playing list hard at work preparing for an exciting 2025 campaign.
One of the attributes that has quickly stood out with the young defender is his speed, which was also noted at the draft combine when he posted a scintillating time in the 20m sprint.
Hofmann spoke about how important his speed is, helping him to impact contests and hold opponents accountable.
"My speed really helps me with my one on one defending," Hofmann said.
"One of my big strengths is my close out speed, being able to get a fist in and spoil the ball away from forwards.
"Then also being able to repel off the half back line, going for the handball receive and then running with the ball a bit as well to penetrate inside 50.
"It is a really big part of my game and it has helped me a lot."
