The Geelong Cats have unveiled the guernsey numbers for their new draftees in 2025, with some highly touted youngsters set to write their own chapter in Geelong football history.

After announcing Bailey Smith will wear the coveted number 3, Geelong’s first selection in the 2024 draft Jay Polkinghorne is set sit alongside the new recruit, inheriting the number 2 guernsey from the recently retired Zach Tuohy.

While there will be a significantly less Irish flavour, Polkinghorne will certainly bring his own flair with the number 2 on his back touted as a spectacular aerial player.

Before Tuohy, two time Premiership player and captain Tom Harley left an incredible legacy in the number two jumper, captaining the Cats to the 2007 and 2009 Premierships.

One of the most recognisable and significant numbers in Cats history has been entrusted with young ruckman, Jacob Mollier who will wear the number 20 in 2025.

The most recent big name to make the number 20 famous was none other than Steve Johnson, an iconic figure who played 253 games for Geelong between 2002 and 2015.

Johnson’s resume speaks for itself; three Premierships, three All Australian selections and a Norm Smith Medal, certainly leaving his stamp in the number 20.

Edward ‘Carji’ Greeves is another Geelong great who donned the number 20, taking out the inaugural Brownlow Medal (1924) and winning two Premierships with the Cats in 1925 and 1931.

Slotting into the number 23 will be Lennox Hofmann, following in the footsteps of Doug Wade and premiership Cat, Gary Rohan.

Cillian Burke will look to create a slice of history in his first season the Cats, set to wear the number 41 which has not been worn by a Geelong player in an AFL game since Jamaine Jones in 2018.

Geelong’s final pick in the National Draft, Keighton Matofai-Forbes is set to wear the number 31 in 2025.

The Cats first selection in the rookie draft, Xavier Ivisic will wear number 25, Patrick Retschko will don the number 27, while Joe Pike will slot into the number 37 in his first season with Geelong.
