Georgie Prespakis at Geelong Cats Training

Geelong will have nearly a full list to choose from for their opening game of the 2024 AFLW season this Saturday against Melbourne.

With just four days to go until the Saturday night blockbuster against Melbourne, 2023 Club best and fairest winner Georgie Prespakis has been cleared to play after overcoming a quad strain that kept her sidelined for the match simulation against Collingwood and practice game against Essendon.

In further positive news, Darcy Moloney will also be available for selection after she missed Geelong’s final practice match against Essendon with a foot injury.

Cats forward Chloe Scheer will be the only player unavailable for the clash with Melbourne, after it was announced last week that she would miss the first half of the AFLW season with a toe injury.

It is great to have a near full list to choose from ahead of our Round 1 game against the Dees, Georgie and Darcy have recovered from their respective injuries and are raring to go” Assistant General Manager Football Brett Johnson said.

“Chloe has had successful surgery on her toe and is recovering well and remains our sole injury heading into Round 1.

It has been a great preparation, and we are all excited to officially kickstart our season in front of a strong, loud, passionate Geelong crowd.

Geelong is ready to kickstart their 2024 campaign on Saturday night, when they open their season against Melbourne in a 2023 Semi-Final rematch under lights at GMHBA Stadium.

The Cats will be looking to build on their successful season in 2023, which saw the team win the first final in their AFLW history and make it to a Preliminary Final.

Tickets for the Round 1 blockbuster against Melbourne are now on sale and are available through Ticketmaster. Geelong fans can also follow the link below to see memberships for the 2024 AFLW season.
