In the build up to the Cats blockbuster clash with Brisbane on Saturday afternoon, we take a look back at some iconic Preliminary Final moments in Geelong Football Club history.
The fourth moment in the series once again takes us back to another brilliant play from the 2007 Preliminary Final, this time from tough on-baller Joel Corey.
Midway through the third quarter, Geelong and Collingwood were locked in a tense battle with the Magpies holding a slender two point lead.
Momentum was against the Cats who had conceded five of the last six goals, while kicking just one goal from their previous eight scoring shots to let Collingwood back into the contest.
With just over seven minutes left in the third term, the Magpies were threatening once again as they transitioned the ball quickly from deep in defence to centre wing.
Geelong looked like they had stifled the attacking move, but a red hot holding the ball decision gave the ball back to Shane O'Bree.
O'Bree quickly played on and found Chris Bryan across half forward, the big ruckman looking like he had plenty of space to steady and fire at goal.
Suddenly, as if he appeared from thin air, Joel Corey threw his body across the boot of Bryan and laid one of the greatest smothers in AFL history.
If the smother was not brilliant enough, somehow Corey also gathered the ball and helped the cats to repel the ball outside of their defensive 50.
The hard nosed midfielder then got involved in the chain further up the field, helping the Cats to lock the ball in their own forward half.
Corey's play helped Geelong to recapture the momentum, going on to kick the next four goals of the game.
