A remarkable season for Geelong’s rising star Ollie Dempsey has seen him awarded Geelong’s Best Young Player on Thursday night at the 2024 Carji Greeves Medal.

The award caps off a sensational year with the 21-year-old featuring in every game, predominately playing in a newly cemented role on the wing.

Across 25 matches in 2024, Dempsey averaged over 17 disposals and five score involvements per game while providing plenty of run, carry and dash.

Another element to Dempsey’s game was his ability to influence the scoreboard, finishing with 22 goals and 24 goal assists, a stat that Dempsey ranked second at the Club for in 2024.

Dempsey was also awarded the Telstra Rising Star Award last month, finishing with 52 out of a possible 55 votes, becoming just the second Cat to win the award.

It was an incredible rise for the young gun this year, having spent the majority of his first two seasons in the VFL and playing just seven AFL games heading into 2024.

Wasting no time cementing his spot in 2024, Dempsey earned his Rising Star nomination in Round 1 when he booted three first half goals against St Kilda.

Dempsey was also the recipient of the Tom Wills Award in the Annual Country game, awarded best afield with a 25 disposal, two goal effort.

At just 21 years old, the sky is the limit for Dempsey as he heads into his fourth season with the Cats in 2025.
