After an impressive debut season in 2023, Aishling Moloney has taken her game to new heights this year and has spearheaded the Cats forward line in record breaking fashion.
Averaging close to three goals per game across her last seven matches, Moloney has already broken the AFLW’s goalkicking record in a single season with one game remaining.
With a healthy desire to continue her improvement, Moloney said the competitive drive and game development comes naturally.
“I am always trying to find the extra mile.
“As a sports person, and a very competitive sports person at that, I always want to have the upper hand.
“It is quite a new game to me, we often reflect and I think that I grew up in Ireland knowing what I was playing and I came out here completely on the back foot. Knowing my skills and knowing what I can bring to the team has been quite amazing.
"But there is always elements that I want to improve on, elements of composure around the ball and aerial marking is something that I need to add to my game.
"The day that I rest on my laurels and begin to think that I know everything, will be the day that I retire.”
The Cats are heading into a must win game in the final round of the home and away season, needing to defeat Kuwarna (Adelaide) on Friday night to keep their Finals hopes alive.
If Geelong can knock over the Crows, attention then turns to a big day of football on Saturday with the Cats needing Naarm (Melbourne) and Essendon to lose their final games.
Moloney said the team are aware of their situation, but are completely focused on what they can control at GMHBA Stadium on Friday.
“There are certain elements are in our control and certain elements are out of our control, but for us all we can do is control what we can control.
We just want to try and put our best foot forward, go out and try the win the Adelaide game.
It will be a very tough task as we all know, Adelaide have been quite a good team and have been for a number of years.
The best thing we can do is just go out and put our best foot forward.”
