Geelong made it two South Australian's with their opening two picks in 2024 National Draft, selecting ruckman Jacob Molier from Sturt with the 52nd pick last week.
Standing at over 200cm tall Molier was touted for his strong ruck craft, but also his athleticism after dominating the 20-metre sprint and agility test at the South Australian draft combine.
Averaging over 10 disposals per game across the 2024 season, Molier also swung forward at times and kicked five goals for Sturt to add an element of versatility to his game.
Molier talked to media about his draft experience, when he arrived at GMHBA Stadium for his first week of pre-season.
"It almost didn't feel real at the time," Molier said.
"It was a rush of excitement and I really appreciate the opportunity I have been given. I did hear a few things from my manager, but I just wanted to let the night roll out and hoped that my name was going to get called out.
"I think I was pretty relaxed coming into the night, not expecting too much. I didn't want to get ahead of myself, but I thought I was going to go a bit later in the night or even in the rookie draft on Friday.
"Obviously when my name got called out, I was full of excitement."
Molier will add valuable depth to Geelong's ruck stocks in 2025, getting the chance to learn from experienced campaigners like Rhys Stanley and Mark Blicavs.
The young South Australian touched on his focus heading into 2025, and the players he is looking forward to playing alongside.
"Probably the best thing for me is just trying to improve in every aspect of my game, because that is the only way I can advance my career," Molier said.
"I am looking forward to the challenge.
"I am looking forward to working alongside the big guys, the likes of Rhys Stanley and Mark Blicavs.
"I feel like I will be able to model my game around them as well, and they will be able to help my progress which is exciting."
