Geelong have unveiled their new final jumper number for the 2025 season, with new recruit Jack Martin set to wear the number 19 in his first year with the Cats.
The number 19 is a historically significant one, with a number of iconic players etching their name into Geelong Football Club history while wearing the number.
To find the player with the most games played in the number 19, you have to go all the way back to the 1920’s, with that record currently held by George Todd.
Across a 13-year career with the Cats, Todd played 232 games and was widely regarded as one of the competition’s best players at the full back.
Todd finished with an impressive resume during his time with Geelong, playing in two VFL Premierships (1925, 1931) and winning three club best and fairest awards (1927, 1930, 1931).
Along the way he also represented Victoria on 12 occasions, was named at full back in Geelong’s team of the century and was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
Neville Bruns was another significant figure in Geelong Football Club history to wear the number 19, pulling on the guernsey for 15 consecutive seasons between 1978 and 1992.
Across his career, Bruns played 223 games featuring through the midfield and on the wing, playing in two Grand Finals with the Cats (1989, 1992).
In 1990 Bruns was also selected for a pair of prestigious honours, representing Australia in the International Rules Series and Victoria in the State of Origin.
