At the bottom of a pile comprised of her closest friends and family members, Alexis Gregor's AFLW dream had become a reality when her name was read out on draft night.

The excitement was evident for all to see, the Bendigo Pioneers product taken by Geelong with pick 10, their first selection of the night.

Described as a tall utility with great aerial ability and a clean set of hands, Gregor was one of the most highly touted prospects in this year's draft crop.

It will be a fresh new start for the Cats recruit, who only visited Geelong for the first time last week.

"I knew the Cats were interested, but I didn't think that they would take me with their first pick," Gregor said.

"I wasn't expecting it at all, you can see it on my face in the reaction video. I didn't realise that Mum was inviting all of her mates as well, there ended up being a fair crowd.

"It will be pretty much brand new, moving to Geelong.

"I went down there a week ago for a bit of a tour of the club, that was the first time I have ever been there."

Throughout her junior career, Gregor proved to be more than capable playing as either a forward or defender.

Across the 2024 season she averaged 15 disposals, five tackles and four marks per game to finish equal runner up in the Bendigo Pioneers best and fairest award.

Set to be a valuable asset for Geelong, Gregor will join the Cats list which includes her former Pioneers teammate, Bryde O'Rourke.

Gregor touched on her first interactions with Geelong's AFLW players, including an entertaining blooper from the draft night.

"There has been about 15 girls that have reached out and sent me paragraphs, just congratulating me," Gregor said.

"They accidentally sent the girls the wrong number in the group chat, so that person got a few messages I think.

"I used to play with Bryde O'Rourke at Bendigo, so that will be good to link up with her again."
