There seems to be something about Geelong, the Gabba and torrential rain.

With horrible conditions predicted to hit South East Queensland this weekend, it is starting to feel like we have seen this story before.

The last time the Cats visited the Gabba came in round six last year, and the team was treated with eerily similar conditions.

Rain pelted down in Brisbane throughout the entire game, soaking the ground and turning the match into an old fashioned wet weather scrap.

Geelong conceded the opening two goals of the match, before Jack Bowes capitalised on an opportunity deep inside 50 to get the Cats on the board.

With scoring at a premium in tough conditions, Ollie Henry stood tall with two goals in the opening half as Geelong took a two point lead into the main break.

Looking to build a gap on the scoreboard, the Cats booted another two majors in third quarter through Mark O'Connor and Brad Close, opening up a seven point buffer at the final change.

With the game in the balance entering the last term, Geelong's class shone through as a number of important players stepped up and left their mark on the match.

It started with Gryan Miers, who defied the elements to slot an important set-shot which pushed the Cats lead out to 14 points.

Tyson Stengle then made the most of his opportunity, cleanly handling a Tom Hawkins torpedo and converting the opportunity to extend the margin even further.

Just minutes later, Brandan Parfitt put the final nail in the coffin as Geelong held Brisbane goalless in the final term, eventually closing out a 26 point win.

Zach Guthrie received the three Brownlow votes, finishing the night 21 disposals and eight rebound 50s in an instrumental display down back.

Equally as important was Max Holmes (24 disposals, 668 metres gained) who provided plenty of run and carry, despite the treacherous conditions at the Gabba.

Up forward, Tyson Stengle (17 disposals, two goals) handled the footy cleaner than anyone on the ground, while Patrick Dangerfield recorded an equal game high six score involvements.
