Geelong will head interstate for the first time in 2025, making the trek north to take on Brisbane at the Gabba on Saturday night.

Looking to bounce back from their round two loss, the Cats will take on a Lions side that has started the season well, winning their opening two games.

The Gabba is renowned as a tough venue to win at, but Geelong hold a relatively strong record there winning nine of their last 13 matches dating back to 2014.

Here is everything you need to know in the first look ahead to Saturday night's blockbuster clash.

2025 AFL Season - Round Three

Brisbane Lions v Geelong Cats

The Gabba, Brisbane

Saturday 29 March, 7.35pm (AEDT)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Geelong: Mark Blicavs

Blicavs versatility has always been asset for Geelong, but it is looking to be incredibly important this year after a strong start to the 2025 season.

The experienced Cat won 10 hit-outs and three clearances in round one, following that with 16 disposals, 18 hit-outs and six clearances against St Kilda on Saturday.

Flexibility is always important for a team, nobody embodying that better than Blicavs for Geelong.

Brisbane: Josh Dunkley

The Lions premium inside midfielder, Dunkley has impressed through the opening two games of the season helping Brisbane secure two early wins.

Dunkley has averaged 25 disposals and seven clearances across the opening two weeks, adding eight tackles, 14 contested possessions and six score involvements per game.

The tough on-baller was also prominent in last year's Preliminary Final against Geelong, collecting 28 disposals, seven intercept possessions and five score involvements.

RECENT HISTORY

One of the more entertaining rivalries in recent history, Geelong have won six of their last four clashes against Brisbane dating back to 2019.

Prior to this most recent stretch, the Cats dominated this match-up winning 18 of 20 games against the Lions between 2006 and 2018.
