A collection of Cats are leading the way across a variety of stats in 2019.
Much has been made of the Cats renewed forward pressure and it has been the work of Tom Atkins and Luke Dahlhaus in particular who have been impressive. Atkins (third) and Dahlhaus (seventh) both sit in the top 10 for tackles inside 50 whilst Dahlhaus sits eighth in the competition for overall tackles.
It’s not just the pressure in the Cats forward line that is making waves with Tom Hawkins (second in AFL) Patrick Dangerfield (fourth) and Gary Ablett (10th) proving very unselfish to sit in the top 10 of score involvements. Sam Menegola is doing his part as well sitting sixth in the AFL for goal assists. Despite his unselfish play, Hawkins has managed to also position himself fourth for marks inside and ninth for overall goals.
Up the field, Rhys Stanley’s hitouts (seventh in the AFL for total hitouts) and centre clearance work (10th in AFL) and Dangerfield driving the ball inside 50 (fourth in AFL) has allowed the Cats to put the aforementioned pressure.
Down back, Mark Blicavs amazing aerobic capacity has meant the opposition never gets a break from him, with the tall defender sitting third in the AFL for time on ground. But it is perhaps his teammate Tom Stewart who is having the most impact with the 2018 All Australian currently sitting second in the AFL for rebounds from 50, third for kicks and fourth for metres gained.
