Geelong’s VFL side has continued their winning form, taking down Coburg by 77 points on Saturday.
In a match where the lead never changed hands, the Cats kicked accurately in the 20.11 (131) to 7.12 (54) win.
The game started with a tightly contested first term but Geelong’s accuracy in front of goal proved to be the difference, with the Cats taking a two-goal lead into the first break.
It was a Geelong masterclass in the second term with the Cats’ dominance at stoppages helping them open up a 50-point lead at half time.
The third term was a low-scoring affair, but the Cats finished strongly with a six-goal final term to run out big winners.
The win puts the Cats back amongst the pack of teams vying for a spot in the VFL’s top eight.
Cats coach Shane O’Bree was pleased with the way his side delivered the ball into their forward line.
“I thought we were more polished than previous weeks going forward and our talls looked dangerous and got isolation,” he said.
“All our fundamentals looked really good and the (forwards) are working together as a big group.”
Nathan Kreuger was the Cats’ most potent forward, kicking six goals and taking seven marks.
Fellow first year Cat Jake Tarca also played his best game for the club, kicking three goals from 15 touches in a promising performance.
VFL listed Cat Jackson McLachlan was named best afield for his 25-disposal performance.
McLachlan kicked three goals and racked up 8 tackles in arguably his best game for the season.
“He is great for our program Jacko, he is lively and can play multiple positions,” O’Bree said.
“His pressure was really good today and rewarded himself with a few goals and set up a few.”
The Cats will look to continue their winning form when they take on Footscray in round nine.
