Young Cat Jordan Clark is adapting to a new role in the side.

Clark started his AFL career across half back but since round seven, he has featured predominantly on the wing for the Cats.

This is largely due to the return of Zach Tuohy to the AFL side, but the switch has also given Clark the chance to develop as a more rounded player.

With the role proving to be more of a challenge from a consistency standpoint, Clark is learning and improving every week.

“It’s a harder position on the wing. Sometimes you can have a bit of a low week and then the next week can be the best week ever,” Clark said speaking to the Geelong Advertiser.

“It’s a hard position to get used to, it’s a lot harder than people on the outside think. It’s a good learning curve for me and I am really enjoying it.

“On the wing there is a lot of off-ball stuff you need to do and not everyone sees it. You might run a pattern over the other side of the ground to allow your teammates to fill the space in the middle of the ground to get the ball.”

From his success as a defender in the early rounds of the season, Clark knows he can perform down back, so adding another position to his game is important for his development.

And despite the battles with consistency, Clark can see he is improving.

“It’s a lot of work that people don’t really see, but those inside the club know you are doing it and doing it well,” he said.

“It’s something I have to keep working on. I’ve got my deficiencies and I have my strengths and I just have to keep working on both and try and get better with the more I play there.”

Wherever he lines up against the Suns, Clark is hoping he and the rest of the team can play the right way on Saturday night.

While the result against the Bulldogs was a positive one, the young Cat concedes there were areas in which his side could have performed better.

“We have addressed what we need to do and it’s pretty much the same as what we have been going through each week and that’s playing the way we have been coached to play and not go away from it,” Clark said.

“We went away from it at the weekend and the Doggies were able to get a little bit closer to us.”
