Cassandra Blakeway
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW
Blakeway’s ability to play a variety of roles is a big asset for the Cats. She was runner-up in the Cats 2018 VFLW Best & Fairest and is a former state softball representative.
Maddie Boyd
Recruited from: GWS AFLW / Geelong VFLW
Boyd is a strong forward presence and elite contested mark. A Geelong local, she has AFLW experience playing with Melbourne and the Giants in the first two seasons of the competition.
Hannah Burchell
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW
The skilful outside midfielder with terrific two-way running abilities brings an element of speed and class to the Geelong side. A consistent performer, Burchell has played every VFLW game for the Cats in the team’s first two seasons.
Rene Caris
Recruited from: Greater Western Victoria Rebels
After a decorated junior netball career, Caris made the transition to football and played with the Greater Western Victoria Rebels. Due to her 184cm frame and athleticism, Caris has predominately been used in the ruck but has shown an ability to play in other parts of the ground. Caris represented Victoria Country at the past two National Championships AND was named in the 2018 TAC Cup Team of the Year.
Georgia Clarke
Recruited from: Greater Western Victoria Rebels
A tall defender form the Greater Western Victoria Rebels who was named in the All-Australian Under-18 squad and the 2018 TAC Cup Team of the Year. A strong overhead mark who rarely wastes a possession. Clarke should feel comfortable at GMHBA Stadium after playing 4 VFLW games with the club in 2018.
Mia-Rae Clifford
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW / Melbourne AFLW
A versatile player who can play a variety of roles. Clifford settled as a forward the Cats’ VFLW season and was named forward pocket in the 2018 VFLW Team of the Year.
Elise Coventry
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW
Coventry is an excellent intercept defender who regularly cuts off opposition entries and turns defence into attack. She has been a consistent performer for the Cats at VFLW level since crossing over from netball in 2017.
Richelle Cranston
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW / Melbourne AFLW
Cranston is a powerful and skilful onballer who is equally threatening when resting forward. The former Demon starred in 2018, named ruck-rover in the 2018 VFLW Team of the Year and winning the Geelong Cats Best & Fairest.
Julia Crockett-Grills
Recruited From: Hawthorn VFLW
After a couple of injury interrupted seasons, Crockett-Grills enjoyed a consistent season in 2018.
The courageous midfielder was a member of the Hawthorn team that defeated the Cats in the 2018 VFLW Grand Final. A talented cricketer who represented Victoria at Under 18 level.
Kate Darby
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW
A natural athlete with an appetite for the contest, Darby was Geelong’s leading goal kicker in the 2018 VFLW season. Played for Carlton in the first year of AFLW.
Maighan Fogas
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW
A prolific contested player, Fogas wins the footy and feeds it out to her teammates. She was second in the VFLW in 2018 for total handballs and hard ball gets. Finished runner-up for the Cats in the 2018 VFLW Best & Fairest.
Renee Garing
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW
The decorated netballer is a natural leader. Vice-captain of the Geelong VFLW side, Garing recorded the most average disposals per game during the 2018 VFLW season playing in the midfield.
Rebecca Goring
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW
A natural leader on and off the field, Goring captained the Geelong VFLW team in its first two seasons. Named full back in the 2018 VFLW Team of the Year, she is a difficult match-up for any forward.
Melissa Hickey
Recruited from: Melbourne AFLW
Melissa Hickey is one of the most decorated players in women’s football. The former vice-captain of the Melbourne Demons was an All-Australian and marquee signing in the inaugural AFLW season. Hickey is a lifelong Cats supporter and descendant of Geelong legend Reg Hickey. She is a smart and skilful footballer with the versatility to play in a variety of positions.
Erin Hoare
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW / Melbourne AFLW
The tallest player in the AFLW, Hoare’s aerial ruck work is second to none. She is a former elite netballer, winning an ANZ Championship with the Melbourne Vixens in 2014. Hoare is a Geelong local who played AFLW for Melbourne in 2018.
Jordan Ivey
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW
Ivey is a powerful and mercurial forward. She is fierce in a contest and creative with ball in hand. Has experience at AFLW level, playing for the Blues in 2017
Madeline Keryk
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW / Carlton AFLW
Keryk brings a hard edge to the Cats midfield. She is a tough, contested player with an accurate, penetrating kick. The inside midfielder is a former vice-captain at Carlton who brings valuable leadership and AFLW experience to Geelong.
Meghan McDonald
Recruited from: Darebin Falcons VFLW
McDonald was a member of the 2017 Darebin VFLW premiership team and was named in the 2018 VFLW Team of the Year at Centre Half Back. In recent seasons, McDonald has shown an ability to play at both ends of the ground which makes her a valuable acquisition for the Cats. McDonald gets another opportunity at AFLW after playing 4 games with the Bulldogs in 2017.
Madeleine McMahon
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW
Having played netball and basketball at the elite level, McMahon has proven herself equally capable on the football field since crossing over to AFL. She is a skilful and mobile tall with the versatility to play key positions all over the ground. Finished in third place in the Geelong VFLW Best & Fairest in 2018 and signed as a Rookie for the 2019 AFLW season.
Phoebe McWilliams
Recruited from: GWS AFLW
McWilliams is of the AFLW’s most prolific goal kickers, averaging a goal per game across the first two seasons. She was the Giants’ leading goal kicker in 2017 & 2018 and will be a focal point at entre Half Forward for the Cats.
Nina Morrison
Recruited from: Geelong Falcons
Taken with the first selection in the 2018 AFLW Draft after a dominant year saw her finish tied for the TAC Cup best & fairest and was co-MVP of the Under 18 national championships. After winning the TAC premiership with the Geelong Falcons, Morrison played four games with Geelong VFLW, including the 2018 VFLW Grand Final. Morrison athletic prowess was demonstrated at the AFLW Draft Combine where she broke records for the yo-yo test and 2km time trial.
Aasta O’Connor
Recruited from: Western Bulldogs AFLW
O’Connor is an AFLW premiership player, part of the Western Bulldogs team that won the flag in 2018. She is a fiercely competitive, strong-bodied ruck with the versatility to play key back and forward. O’Connor is one of the longest kicks in women’s football and is a scoring threat whenever she is inside the 50m arc.
Danielle Orr
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW
Orr is a former netballer with excellent agility and silky skills. With her accurate left foot, she knows how to find the goals or a team mate in a dangerous position.
Olivia Purcell
Recruited from: Geelong Falcons
The 2018 Geelong Falcons best and fairest winner is an inside midfielder who thrives on the contest and winning the hard ball. Purcell has an extraordinary list of achievements at junior level, including multiple selections in the TAC Cup Team of the Year and the All-Australian team. After winning the 2018 TAC Cup premiership with the Geelong Falcons, Purcell helped the Geelong VFLW team progress to the VFLW Grand Final and was named amongst the Cats best players.
Georgie Rankin
Recruited from: Surfers Paradise Demons
Rookie signing is a former basketballer who represented Queensland in the U20 National Championships. She dominated her first season of football with the Surfers Paradise Demons in 2018, winning the club goal kicking and Best & Fairest award. Rankin has strong ties to the club and the region. She is the great granddaughter of Cats legend Teddy Rankin and her uncles Cliff, Doug and Bert also played for the club.
Denby Taylor
Recruited from: Geelong Falcons
Selected with pick 20 in the AFLW Draft, Taylor is a highly skilled player with a turn of speed, who can play at either end of the ground. Taylor was best on ground in the Geelong Falcons 2018 TAC Cup grand final win, and was named in the TAC Cup Team of the Year in both 2017 and 2018.
Anna Teague
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW / Melbourne AFLW
A former elite basketballer and captain of the Geelong Lady Supercats. Teague is a powerful key defender who sets up attack from the backline. Has AFLW experience and will be a leader of Geelong’s defence.
Hayley Trevean
Recruited from: Geelong VFLW
Trevean sets the standard for contested work. She is a tough midfielder with the polish to finish her hard work when close to goal. Brings AFLW experience to Geelong after playing with Carlton in the first year of the competition.
Sophie Van De Heuvel
Recruited from: Greater Western Victoria Rebels
Van de Heuvel earned All-Australian honours at the under-18 national championships and was named in the TAC Cup Team of the Year. Van de Heuvel also represented Williamstown at VFLW level and was nominated for the VFLW Rising Star award. A dual sport athlete, Van de Heuvel also excels at cricket and has represented Victoria at under-18 level.
Rebecca Webster
Recruited from: Murray Bushrangers
After being selected for TAC Cup team of the year and being named in the All Australian squad, Webster who plays predominantly as a defender, was taken with the seventh pick in the 2018 AFLW draft. She enjoyed a taste of senior football in the VFLW with Melbourne University. Webster, who was co-captain of the Murray Bushrangers, is an exceptional overhead mark and elite kick.
