Some blunt, brotherly love has Scott Selwood nearing his best on the eve of his 150th game.
The former West Coast vice captain arrived at Simonds Stadium in late 2015 via restricted agency, having battled through multiple injury-plagued seasons in the west.
Despite his obvious potential and talent as an AFL footballer, questions lingered around the now 27-year-old’s durability and whether he would ever be able to get back to the form that saw him claim the Eagles’ best and fairest in 2012.
Having now donned the hoops on 14 occasions for Geelong, Selwood told 1116 SEN joining brother Joel and the honest feedback that came with it has proved catalyst in reviving his career.
“Since coming back, one of the big things that he asked me was ‘we want you here at the club, but how are you going to influence the club to make everyone else better as well’,” Selwood said.
“From there, I probably knew I needed to get my arse into gear and get back into really striving to get back to playing my best footy and get my body right."
"It’s probably those little things that I missed [previously]. We had to keep our guard up being at different clubs, but now that I’m back at the same club he’s pretty honest with me but I enjoy it.”
The league-leader in tackles and averaging 18.3 disposals, Selwood will run out for his 150th AFL game on Saturday afternoon at the MCG against Collingwood.
While he won’t be joined by his brother and captain following ankle surgery, it’s hoped Joel will return in time for the Cats’ first final.
“[Joel’s] feeling pretty good about it all and he’s pretty confident,” Selwood said.
“We’ve got the bye week obviously before the finals and we’re going to have a little run around … a match simulation thing on the Saturday off and do quite a bit then."
"He’s planning, from my understanding, … to join in all of that.”
