Tune in as Cats Media sort through all the latest whispers for the AFL’s trade week involving the Cats.
UPDATE: October 17
A trade for Tuohy
Irishman Zach Tuohy remains set on joining Geelong, with a trade involving Darcy Lang on the cards, says a report in the Herald Sun.
That swap could also involve a future draft pick.
However, The Age says Lang is unwilling to move to the Blues.
Deledio to stay a Tiger
Richmond's Brett Deledio is likely to stay at Punt Road, according to the Herald Sun.
Deledio, 29, was interested moving to Geelong but a bulging salary cap and a lack of a suitable trade option has held that up. The Cats were not willing to give up midfielder Josh Caddy, in whom the Tigers had expressed interest.
The Age reports that if the Cats were to give up Caddy, they would want a second-round pick plus Deledio.
The Tiger will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of 2017.
UPDATE: October 16
Steven Motlop will almost certainly be a Cat in 2017, with the club and player mutually agreeing not to pursue trade options any further.
Motlop is contracted with Geelong for next season but he was put on the trade table after a disappointing 2016 finals series.
Despite his obvious game-breaking talents, Motlop, 25, did not attract huge interest from opposition clubs, with his lucrative 2017 salary a potential deterrent for any potential suitor.
AFL.com.au understands Geelong and Motlop have recently met and agreed he will remain at Simonds Stadium in 2017 after a frank discussion in which the club and Motlop found common ground on their expectations for next year.
Motlop is set to become a free agent at the end of next season, with his salary highly likely to make him a restricted free agent, giving the Cats the right to match any rival offer.
Motlop has played 112 games with Geelong, including all 24 this season, and kicked 153 goals.
UPDATE: October 12
Cats to get the Blues?
The Age reports that the Blues might try to fill their midfield void by asking Geelong for players such as Nakia Cockatoo or Darcy Lang in exchange for Zach Tuohy.
The Blues are not believed to be interested in enigmatic Cat Steven Motlop.
Cats rejects Tigers' Caddy push
Geelong has snubbed Richmond's request for midfielder Josh Caddy in a potential swap for Tigers star Brett Deledio, The Age reports.
The Herald Sun adds that the Cats believe they could land Deledio for nothing as an unrestricted free agent at the end of next year when he will be 30.
The Herald Sun also believes that if Deledio were to play for Geelong, he'd likely have to take a pay cut in the vicinity of $200,000 a season to squeeze into the Cats' salary cap.
Meanwhile, The Age reports that Geelong will grant forward Shane Kersten his wish of moving to Fremantle after he nominated the Dockers as his preferred destination on Tuesday.
UPDATE: October 4
The Age is reporting that the Cats have joined North Melbourne in having interest in dashing Carlton defender Zach Tuohy. However the The Age reports they are unsure whether the Cats have made a formal offer.
On NAB AFL Trade Radio, North Melbourne free agent Daniel Wells’ manager Liam Pickering says the Cats are interested in the out of contract playmaker. Wells has been heavily linked to Collingwood but hasn’t said if he is leaving the Kangaroos.
The Adelaide Advertiser is reporting that Cat Nathan Vardy will have a medical at Port Adelaide with the Power looking to bolster their ruck stocks.
