1. Dangerfield sets a new standard
The Cats star sewed up the Brownlow Medal with one round to go but he also set a new record for the most number of votes in a Brownlow count under the 3-2-1 system. Dangerfield needed three votes in the last round to pass Dane Swan's record of 34 in 2011. He polled three votes for his 32 disposals in the Cats' 111-point win over Melbourne. Dangerfield also polled in 15 games to set a new mark and matched the record nine best on grounds set by 1994 winner Greg Williams and equalled by Fremantle superstar Nat Fyfe last year.
2. Dangerwood bromance in full force
Much has been made of the close bond that has been formed between Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood. The pair did little to hide their bond when they sat next to each other during the Brownlow count with their respective partners on either side. They polled votes in the same game eight times this season, a new record for two teammates in a single season.

3. Parker breaks record
Luke Parker set a record after six rounds. His 13 votes were the most ever by any player after six rounds in the history of the Brownlow Medal. Parker was best on ground in rounds one, two and six and he polled two votes in round three and round five. Incredibly, Parker set the record without polling a vote in the Swans' round four loss to Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Parker finished second to Dangerfield with 26 votes.
4. Ablett cracks the ton
Gary Ablett polled one vote in round one. It was the 100th game of his illustrious career where he has polled Brownlow votes. He also set a new benchmark for the most votes accumulated over a career under the 3-2-1 system. Gary Dempsey polled 246 votes in his career but it included seasons when it was a 5-4-3-2-1 system. Ablett's six votes took him to 220 votes.

5. Mitchell trumps Ablett
Sam Mitchell's 16 votes also took him 220 career votes and he polled in eight games to take him to 104 polling games in his career. Mitchell joins Ablett and St Kilda great Robert Harvey as the only players to poll in 100 games or more. Remarkably, Ablett and Harvey have won four Brownlow's between them while Mitchell has never won the medal.
6. Hall's hot streak
Gold Coast's Aaron Hall can tell his grandchildren one day about the year he held the lead in the Brownlow Medal. Hall joined his captain Gary Ablett and former Essendon and Hawthorn great Paul Salmon as the only men to poll a perfect nine votes in the first three rounds of a season. Unfortunately he was dropped mid-season after some indifferent form but he did poll another two votes to finish with 11.

7. Gawn runs down Goldstein
Max Gawn claimed the prized All Australian ruck spot but he gave Todd Goldstein a start as the leading vote getter among the ruck fraternity. Goldstein made a fast start polling 11 votes on the back of North Melbourne's nine-straight wins to start the year. But Gawn came back strongly and polled 16 votes for the season to finish as the leading ruckman in the League.
8. Lonergan still hasn't broken the duck
Prior to the start of the season North Melbourne's Ross Henshaw held the all-time record for the most number of games played without polling a Brownlow vote. But Cats defender Tom Lonergan surpassed Henshaw's 167 voteless games this year. Lonergan played his 168th game in round four. He played 22 matches to finish the year on 186 games without a single Brownlow vote.
9. Cats climb to number one
Prior to this season, Carlton had accumulated more votes than any other club in the competition. But the Blues only led the Cats by eight votes with 5330 to 5322. Geelong's 81 votes, helped by Dangerfield's 35, saw the Cats claim the mantle for the most votes as a club with 5403. The Blues sit second with 5375.

10. Annie Nolan makes a red carpet statement
Annie Nolan is the partner of Western Bulldogs tough nut Liam Picken. The pair walked the Swisse Brownlow Red Carpet wearing matching suits. Nolan tweeted that the reason she hadn't worn a dress like the majority of the other partners was because, "I feel the red carpet has been biased and cruel to women in the past #bullyfreebrownlow".
