Geelong's Tom Ruggles has accepted the $1000 fine he was offered by the Match Review Panel for intentionally striking Hawthorn's All Australian Cyril Rioli.

In other tribunal news, Steve Johnson will miss Greater Western Sydney's historic preliminary final after accepting a one-match suspension.

Johnson was charged with rough conduct for a high bump on Sydney Swans opponent Josh Kennedy, which was graded as careless conduct, with medium impact to the head.

A medical report from the Sydney Swans was used in setting the medium impact grading, as well as the fact Kennedy spent 20 minutes off the ground to be assessed by club medical staff.

GWS ruckman Shane Mumford, who was scrutinised for a forceful tackle on Kurt Tippett, was cleared of any wrongdoing making him available for the club's preliminary final.

The MRP said an injury sustained by Tippett had been caused in an earlier ruck contest and not the Mumford tackle.

"Tippett's right shoulder and right side of his body make contact with the turf, while his head does not hit the ground at any stage during the tackle," the MRP said in its findings.

A total of $11,000 in fines were handed down out of the opening week of finals, with Adelaide defender Kyle Hartigan offered a $1500 fine for tripping North Melbourne forward Lindsay Thomas.

North Melbourne's Michael Firrito departs the game with a $1000 fine for striking Adelaide ruckman Sam Jacobs, while Drew Petrie was fined $1500 for instigating a melee against the Crows.

Fellow Roos Shaun Higgins and Andrew Swallow and Adelaide's Daniel Talia and Kyle Cheney were fined $1000 each for their involvement in a melee. Jack Ziebell was fined $1500 for a second offence.

Hawthorn stars Jordan Lewis and Luke Hodge were cleared of separate striking offences on Geelong captain Joel Selwood, because the impact was deemed insufficient.
