Frank Costa AO was presented the 2015 Reg Hickey Award for outstanding service to Australian Football at tonight’s Annual General Meeting at Simonds Stadium.

Costa has been a lifetime member of the Geelong Football Club and his formal association began 35 years ago when he became a member of the Pivots Coterie Group.

After joining the club’s board in 1997, Costa became Vice President in 1998 and then served as President from 1998 until 2010.

Together with Brian Cook, Costa steered the club out of financial trouble and towards success with two Premierships (2007, 2009) won under his leadership.

After stepping down as President, Costa assumed the role of club Patron in 2011 and has taken a leading role in securing funding for the Simonds Stadium redevelopment.

Costa was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1997 for his services to youth and community, the Australian Sports Medal in 2001 for his services to Australian Rules Football and the Centenary Medal in 2003 by the Governor-General for his contribution to Australian society.

Last year, Costa was named an Officer of the Order of Australia in recognition of his service to the city of Geelong in sport, business and philanthropy.

“It’s hard to imagine a more worthy recipient than Frank,” Geelong Cats Vice President and Chair of the Honouring the Past Management Committee Bob Gartland said.

“He has done all he possibly can to make the Geelong Football Club the best it can be.”
