This week on Tweet the Coach Chris Scott spoke about the management that’s involved when younger Cats go into finals and the emotional benefits that the players receive from loud crowds.

Fortunately, many young players at Geelong have had the opportunity to play against big sides during the season and are well prepared for finals footy.

On the other hand, Scott says Geelong doesn’t do anything out of the ordinary for the younger players’ preparation in the lead up to finals. Instead they revisit the club’s values and keep training routines the same.

“I think one of the good parts of being a player at Geelong is that you tend to play some pretty big games throughout the home and away season,” Scott said.

“In some respect there’s a little bit of experience on our side there but with the young guys that haven’t played finals footy, I think it’s a boring answer, but it’s really taking it back to the things that we value and keeping the week as normal as possible and concentrating on the things that we need to do to play well.”

Last Saturday Scott believes the Cats played in front of one of their best and loudest home audiences. According to Scott the volume of the crowd has a positive impact on the players and there is no such thing as a crowd that’s too loud.

“Particularly at home it has a huge influence,” Scott said.

“I think the game on Saturday afternoon against Sydney was as involved as I’ve seen the crowd in my time at Geelong.

“I know the players really value it and it becomes even more acute when you travel interstate and you play in front of home crowds in Adelaide and Perth in particular and the influence they can have.

“My view is that we can continue to build that as we improve the stadium here at Geelong and get more people into the venue, and it will have a big influence over the emotional state of our players.”

Chris Scott also speaks about Geelong’s exciting VFL side, playing home finals at Etihad and the Cats forever improving captain on this week’s Tweet the Coach.
