Harry Taylor has received countless honours for his on-field performance, from premiership medallions to All Australian nominations, but his latest tribute is certainly out of the ordinary.
The star fullback is now the namesake of one of the Cat’s newest and youngest members, Harry Edwards.
Harry Edwards after being signed up as a Cats member.
Born a three weeks ago, Harry was destined to be named after a premiership Cat, with ‘Scarlett’ being the choice had he been a girl (after the great Matthew Scarlett of course).
Parents Danielle and Clayton have been Cats members as long as they can remember, with a love for the hoops dating back generations.
The pair from Pakenham, Victoria also has two daughters Siena, 3 years old, and Olivia, 2, who were signed up as members within days – if not hours - of being born.
Clayton, a primary school teacher, admitted he sometimes tries to convince his students to support the Cats.
“I think I have brainwashed a few of them, yes,” Clayton told geelongcats.com.au.
“They all know I’m a big Cats supporter so I often cop some flack after a loss,” he said.
As for choosing to name their son after Harry Taylor, as opposed to another Cats player, Clayton said the double-premiership-player possessed countless admirable qualities.
“We believe that Harry is a hard but fair player.
“He seems to be a very loyal and friendly person – and player – which we feel are important attributes and ones we hope to instil in our Harry.
“I have read a little bit about Harry’s love and passion for family which [is something] we hold dearly,” he said.
We’re sure Harry will grow up to be a lovely young man if he’s anything like his namesake!
