The performance of Patrick Dangerfield has captured all the headlines in the wake of Saturday's three-point win over Hawthorn at the MCG.

And why shouldn't it? Danger produced a remarkable display, kicking 5.6 and taking 12 marks while stationed in the forward line because he was carrying a leg injury.

But as Cats coach Chris Scott pointed out after the game, albeit with his tongue planted in his cheek, "If I'm going to pick holes, he wasn't instrumental in our defensive performance.

So we thought it was only fair to pay tribute to the performances of our backmen, who held Hawthorn to just 85 points.

And they did that despite being without one of the Cats' best defenders, Andrew Mackie, who was a late withdrawal due to a sore wrist.

Of the key backs, Lachie Henderson led the way on the stats sheet for the second week running, tallying 23 disposals and laying five tackles, while Harry Taylor was sensational, racking up 20 touches and taking four marks.

Tom Lonergan was his usual reliable self, competing hard against the numerous Hawthorn talls, while Jake Kolodjashnij finished the game with 15 disposals and five tackles to his name.

Zach Tuohy, Jed Bews and youngster Zach Guthrie were others who chipped in with some timely spoils and some great rebounding work.
