Cassie Blakeway is set to play a crucial role down back on Friday night.

Jordan Ivey v Jasmine Garner

Ivey returns to the team this week having served a one week suspension for front-on contact with Tigers’ captain Katie Brennan and it couldn’t be better timing.

Ivey is the perfect match for the strong-bodied Garner and will most likely go to the Kangaroo’s premier midfielder.

Garner loves to kick long and her booming 50m kicks often catch her opponents off guard and help set up her team offensively.

Ivey will have a big night ahead of her, but if anyone can stop Garner it will be the Cats’ number five.

Meghan McDonald v Emma King

King had a successful 2019 at the Kangaroos playing up forward where she kicked eight goals in her seven games.

Opponents found it hard to match King’s height (187cm) when the former ruck played as a stay-at-home forward.

This season King hasn’t matched the lofty standards she set for herself in the previous year, managing only three goals in her five outings.

McDonald, as the Cats’ tallest defender, will be the best match physically for King.

If the Cats can put pressure on North Melbourne’s midfield causing errant kicks to King, you would back McDonald to beat King in a foot race.

Cassie Blakeway v Kaitlyn Ashmore

Blakeway will play her first game of the season tonight and she could be facing a tough challenge in her first outing.

Ashmore is the Kangaroos’ leading goal kicker this season kicking eight goals in 2020.

Against the Crows last week Ashmore was outstanding.

The speedy forward kicked four goals from her 11 disposals.

Blakeway will need to be physical with Ashmore to stop her speed and ability to sneak out the back.
