Simonds Stadium's three projects are on track to be completed for Geelong's first ever night game next Saturday
Simonds Stadium is set to make history with all three projects on track for the biggest AFL event Geelong has ever seen. For the very first time Geelong Cats will step out onto their very own floodlit stage, to take on the Gold Coast Suns next Saturday night.
Kardinia Park has never looked so grand as it did on Monday evening, when all four light towers were switched on for their first informal review. The florescent glow could be spotted from every corner of the city and beyond.
On round ten Simonds Stadium will be the focal point of Geelong, where the club will showcase its brand new Players Stand and the Momentum superscreen, which will be on display for all to see under the stadium’s towering lights.
The atmosphere for Geelong’s first night game is set to be a electric, as Simonds Stadium prepares to host a record crowd of 33,500 people.
Player Stand facts:
- 9,400 seats - 100% for public, no corporate facilities
- New Deakin Cats Community Centre
- New Past Players Lounge, with memorabilia display
Light tower facts:
- 73 metres high
Each tower has
- 100 light fittings, with the ability to add another 30 to each tower if required in the future
- A two-person lift and stairs
Superscreen facts:
- Size - 120sqm
- Located in front of the light tower on Moorabool Street side of ground, river/south end
