THE CATS suddenly have a plethora of gun midfielders to support inspirational skipper Joel Selwood.

New boys Patrick Dangerfield and Scott Selwood will be among the captain’s supporting cast, as will Mitch Duncan and Josh Caddy, who both showed plenty of brilliance during 2015.

The addition of ruckman Zac Smith to the Cats' list, and the impressive progress of Nathan Vardy, also means Mark Blicavs is likely to spend more time in the midfield in 2016.

Blicavs, who recently won the 'Carji' Greeves Medal after a sensational season in which he played just about everywhere, is sure to benefit from being match up against midfielders rather than towering ruckmen.

In contrast, Blicavs great mate Cameron Guthrie is set to spend less time in the midfield as he focusses on giving the Cats plenty of drive from defence.

If that happens, it will be up to the less experienced midfielders to stand up and provide the depth in the middle of the ground.

Steven Motlop is well placed to do that, after often pushing up the ground in 2015, while Nakia Cockatoo, Darcy Lang and George Horlin-Smith look set to flourish in the coming seasons.

And we can't forget the great Jimmy Bartel, who is fighting fit again after an injury-interrupted year.

So things are looking rosy, but now it’s time for you Cats fans to send us your thoughts on who our most important midfielder will be in 2016.
