Two key Cats set to return
Both Tom Lonergan and Corey Enright are confident they'll be ready to slip on the boots for Friday night's clash
Geelong’s two senior defenders, Tom Lonergan and Corey Enright, hope to return to take on Carlton after missing last week’s trip to Sydney.
Lonergan, who suffered from concussion during the Cats win against the Roos, believes he will be right to take back his position Friday night.
“I’m feeling pretty good,” Lonergan told K-ROCK’s B-Team on Monday morning.
“I definitely wasn’t right to play last week, even I knew that.
“I wanted to play, but the right call was made.”
Lonergan was forced to watch the Cats loss from the couch on Thursday night after experiencing various side effects following the heavy hit.
“I woke up on Saturday morning (after the Kangaroos’ game) and thought “I’ll be fine”, Lonergan said.
“I went for a drive and had to pull over. Mum was in the passenger seat. I said “mum, you’re going to have to drive”.
“I was no good. Scattered, blurry vision, all those things you hear about.”
Leading up to Round 11 at the SCG, Lonergan admitted he found it difficult to train at full capacity.
“(I was) just that 10 to 15 per cent off all week,” he said.
“Most of the boys just thought was normal for me.”
Another hopeful return this week is Geelong’s reliable veteran, Corey Enright, who was also crossed off last week’s senior list to nurse a bothered ankle.
“It has been good up until now, (but) it just got a little bit sore during the week,” Enright told K-ROCK FM.
“We decided not to risk it going in Thursday night.”
Enright believes a week away from the field will be enough for him to get back where he left off.
“Hopefully we get on top of it now and put it to bed,” Enright said.
Enright says this week the Cats will go about their duties like usual despite their devastating loss to Sydney.
“We’re not a club that gets carried away with our wins and we’re not a club that dwells on our losses too much,” Enright explained.
“We obviously do the same processes each week.
“We review each game and we take some positives, we take some negatives and some things we could do a little bit better.
“I’m tipping that come Monday it’s going to be pretty similar to the other weeks.
“It’s how we respond and how we train, and, I’m pretty sure, the guys that took the field will be pretty filthy and pretty keen to get back to playing some good footy on Friday night."
