Once pick 47 camearound, it quickly became clear that Cory Gregson’s decision to move away fromhome to pursue his AFL dream had paid off, when Geelong called out his name inThursday night's national draft.

Gregson, who stoppedbeing a gymnast to concentrate on his football, was Geelong's second pick afterNakia Cockatoo at pick 10.

“It’s bloody awesome,I’m over the moon about it; getting picked up by one of the best clubs in theAFL is definitely a dream come true,” Gregson told Cats TV after his first dayat Simonds Stadium.

After spending manyhours in the car chasing his football commitments, the small forward from PortWillunga and his mother Kym decided it would be best if he lived with a hostfamily closer to Adelaide.

At hishost family's house, Gregson’s parents and a few friends joined him to watch the draftunfold.

When it finally cameto Stephen Wells calling out Gregson’s name at pick 47, it was his Mum’sreaction that he recalled the most, as he had not only been drafted, but he hadbeen chosen by her favourite team.

“I was actually at ahost family back home and Mum and Dad came over and I had a couple of mates…and Geelong called my name and Mum got up and started crying and she was justhugging me for about 20 minutes and she went to the other room because shecouldn’t cope.” Gregson said.

Once he got throughhis first day of training, the Cats awarded Gregson with the number 28 guernsey.
