Although they’ll be rivals on Saturday afternoon, Cats Steven Motlop and captain Joel Selwood admitted Gary Ablett Jnr is their favourite player to have ever been at Kardinia Park.

“He’s nearly the greatest player to ever play the game,” Motlop told Cats TV.

Ablett played 192 games at Geelong before joining the Gold Coast in 2010.

“My favourite Cat would be Gary Ablett Jnr, not sure if I’m allowed to say that while he’s still playing,” Selwood joked, “but he was an unbelievable player to play with.”

Selwood played alongside Ablett, who is one of the most decorated players in the AFL, winning a Brownlow medal in 2009 and 2013.

“What he can do on the footy field is just magic,” Motlop said.

“He’s a star… you can’t find the words to explain what he’s like,” Selwood said.

“He’s turned from this mid-sized forward to the best midfielder we’ve seen since I’ve been alive for sure, and he’s not finished yet,” Selwood said.
