Becoming an AFL club for a day
10 country/metropolitan clubs will be placed in the draw to become AFL players for a day at the Cattery, to thank for their incredible support towards the Casey Tutungi foundation.
Casey Tutungi is a product of the Lorne Football Club, a former Geelong VFL player and current South Barwon premiership playing coach, but earlier this year football clubs from right across the state, were called on to lend a helping hand and assist with raising funds for his appeal.
It was a call that was answered with an overwhelming show of support and generosity at every level with clubs organising everything from sausage sizzles to pie nights to tribute jumpers to auctions to cow lotto to charity matches to raise much needed funds.
As an incentive for doing so, the Geelong Cats offered the opportunity for one lucky country/metropolitan football club to spend a day at Simonds Stadium and become an AFL football club for the day.
The list of clubs that made donations reads like an encyclopaedia of football clubs -Alberton, Deer Park, East Sandringham, Navarre, Port Fairy, Simpson – the list goes on and on.
With the assistance of the Bendigo Bank, the club have been able to put together a list of the ten Victorian based football clubs who donated the most funds for the Casey Tutungi Appeal.
The top 10 clubs alone raised a combined total of $100,000 for the appeal.
In no particular order - the ten (10) Victorian country clubs that will go into the draw to spend a day at the ‘Cattery’ are as follows:
- Torquay Football Club
- North Geelong Football Club
- Newtown Football Club
- Lara Football Club
- Grovedale Football Club
- Geelong Amateurs Football Club
- Drysdale Football Club
- Old Geelong Football Club
- Barwon Heads Football Club
- Camperdown Football Club
It is important to note the list does not include the significant contributions raised by our fellow AFL & VFL clubs or the incredible efforts of the clubs heavily involved with the appeal – South Barwon & Lorne.
The draw for this incredible experience will be conducted in coming days and the replay will be shown on Cats TV.
On behalf of everyone involved with the appeal, a big thank you to all the sporting (not just football!) clubs across the country that donated to the appeal so generously.
