Just Think
Saturday night's clash the Cats and Geelong Advertiser will celebrate Just Think's seventh year, a campaign to help raise awareness about alcohol-fuelled violence
This Saturday night’s clash with Fremantle will mark the Cats’ official Just Think match for the season. In its seventh year, the Cats are proud to partner with the Geelong Advertiser with the aim to raise awareness about the repercussions of alcohol-fuelled street violence.
The Just Think campaign came to fruition in 2008 after players Tom Harley, David Wojcinski and James Kelly watched a story featuring James Macready Bryan, a young Cats fan who was assaulted in Melbourne on his birthday. Disappointed by the increase in alcohol related violence in Geelong, the players joined forces with the Geelong Advertiser and Just Think was born.
The program aims to create awareness through powerful editorial, social media and community engagement of the Just Think message that will lead to significant cultural change surrounding alcohol-fuelled violence and ultimately, reduce the incidence of violence.
The program’s key message is ‘We’re not saying don’t drink, Just Think’ and this week two forums were held as part of the program to target local footballers and secondary school students about the issue.
In addition to geelongcats.com.au going orange this week, the Cats will wear orange rimmed socks in support of Just Think at Simonds Stadium tomorrow night.
Orange, the official colour of the Just Think campaign will also be noticeable around the stadium with promotions on the big screen and the AFL footy record donning an orange cover.
