This week on Tweet the coach Chris Scott spoke about two young Cats that he believes are tracking towards the club’s best 22.

Both George Horlin-Smith and Shane Kersten have shown Scott that they have the qualities of becoming a valuable player for the Cats.

When asked if Horlin-Smith held the X-factor Scott was quick to reply. He told Cats TV that he believed the young midfielder added a whole lot more to the club than just that.

“Probably more than an X-factor, he’s contributed really well to our AFL side at different times this year,” Scott said.

“He was a bit unlucky to have quite a serious quad injury that kept him out for a while and he’s been in and out of the side since then.

“We think he’s absolutely got the attributes to play contested finals type football but more than that he might be too good to leave out of our 22.”

Another young Cat that has played a significant role in the Cats VFL over the last two weeks is Shane Kersten. His performance in the forward line has been remarkable, kicking an impressive total of eleven goals in two games.

Kersten is still yet to receive his debut with the Cats, although, his last two games haven’t gone unnoticed by coaching staff. Scott is confident his debut will come sooner rather than later if he continues to outshine his opponents and teammates in the VFL.

“He probably is (ready for his debut), he was certainly on the verge of his debut mid-season but unfortunately he hurt his groin and missed a bit of footy, now two games back in the VFL and he’s put in two strong performances, he’s well and truly in our thinking,” Scott explained.

“I don’t think we’ll pick him this week against Port but after that, given another good performance at VFL level, he is someone that figures strongly in our thinking.”
