A perilous contest awaits
Joel Selwood is preparing for a tough encounter when the Cats face Richmond on Saturday night at the MCG
Joel Selwood admits that this week’s clash against Richmond is a danger game for the club with the Tigers on the prowl for an upset.
Speaking to 3AW Sports Today last night, Selwood stated the Cats will have to be ready for the in-form Tigers.
“It’s a danger game alright; they beat both the teams in the grand final last year so we know that they’re capable of beating the good sides.
“We’ll be up against it this weekend; they’ve got some star players that stand up in these games so we’ve got to make sure that we cut them out.”
With the Round 6 clash coinciding with Corey Enright’s 250th game and Steve Johnson’s 200th, Selwood said they want to make it a memorable one for their teammates.
“We usually like to win these games and make sure these boys can enjoy it.
“A little thank you for what they’ve given the footy club.”
When conversation shifted to the newly installed Simonds Stadium light towers, it was suggested that each tower should be named after past players of the current era.
Selwood was asked who his pick would be and his answer was no surprise.
“Probably Matthew Scarlett, I’d give him a tower and the Abletts would be hard to go past.”
But Selwood was more than happy to leave the suggestions to the fans in fear of forgetting one of the greats.
