Ahead of Melbourne’s not so fond journey down to Simonds Stadium one of their leading defenders, James Frawely, will be tested to see if he is fit to make the trip.
Last time Frawley met the Cats he played a critical role in defence, with 19 disposals, seven marks and four tackles.
This time round the Dees are crossing their fingers tight that Frawley's hamstring has recovered, after retiring to the bench last week during the second half against Sydney, which was his first game back since his injury.
“James felt some awareness in his hamstring during the game on the weekend,” said acting general manager of football operations, Josh Mahoney to www.melbournefc.com.au
“We took a no risk approach to James and he was subbed during the third quarter.
“Scans today (Monday) were positive; he will be monitored during the week and tested before the game against Geelong on Saturday.”
Another Demon that’s hoping to join Saturday’s clash against the Cats, is their speedster Sam Blease who was out last week resting his ankle.
Mahoney feels a lot more confident with Blease’s recovery and says he should be ready for selection this week.
“He ran around today (Monday) and his ankle is feeling much better, so we’d expect him to be available for selection this weekend.”
The Demons will also bulk up their list this week with the return of their toughest first year player, Jack Viney, who has been out with a toe injury, along with the return of midfielder Jordie McKenzie and defender Joel Macdonald.
“Jack Viney has completed all his requirements through his rehab,” Mahoney said.
“The expectation is that he’ll be available to play this weekend, along with Jordie McKenzie, who has overcome an elbow injury.
“Joel Macdonald has also recovered from a toe injury.”
